US coronavirus cases top 3 million, California, Texas report surges – Outbreak News Today

The United States his a grim milestone today topping 3 million COVID-19 cases, after reporting an additional 51,000 in the past day.

The death toll now stands at 133,000. More than 900,000 people have recovered from the illness.

California

California reported an additional 6090 cases Monday, a drop from the more than 11,000 cases reported Sunday.

The case tally in the state now stands at 277,774 confirmed cases to date. Nearly 6500 deaths have been reported.

Like in other states, California is seeing a spike in younger people. So far in July, roughly 65% of new infections have been diagnosed among those 18 to 49.

Texas

Texas reported more than 10,000 additional COVID-19 cases Tuesday, a record-breaking daily surge.

There were 9,268 people in the state’s hospitals with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, another daily record, according to  the Texas Department of State Health Services.

To date, Texas has reported more than 210,000 cases, including 2715 deaths.
