Coronavirus: Madurai goes past 5000 cases – News Today

Chennai: Even as the number of coronavirus cases have reduced in Chennai for the past few days, Madurai has breached the 5,000 mark. Sources said that 335 persons were tested positive today taking the total number of cases to 5,009.

It may be noted that Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan on Monday said 1,672 of the 8,443 streets in Madurai have at least one Covid-19 case. The health department said that they are planning to implement micro-management plan, as in Chennai, to tackle the rising number of cases, he said.

Radhakrishnan said 1,477 beds had been created in private and government hospitals in Madurai thus far. Covid health centres has an additional 859 beds, whereas 465 beds are available in Covid care centres. Measures have been taken to provide additional lifesaving drugs to Madurai. Similarly, more beds with oxygen facilities were being created, he said.

He added that People should realise that by not wearing a mask, they are not only putting themselves at risk, but also putting others at risk.

Radhakrishnan and Revenue Minister R B Udayakumar conducted inspection of the measures taken to contain Covid-19 in Madurai.
